More Than Martial Arts

At Element ATA, we develop confident, respectful, capable individuals – on the mat and in life.

Self-Defense Development

Practical self-defense that builds one class at a time. Students drill real technique, escapes, and situational awareness with partners at their own level, and learn the judgment to avoid trouble in the first place. The curriculum scales with belt rank, so a six-year-old and an adult beginner each train what genuinely fits them.

Leadership Development

Belt progression creates goal-setters. Advanced students become leaders and mentors. The leadership skills built on our mat carry into school, work, and life.

Character Building

Every class includes a life skill of the month: confidence, communication, honesty, respect, self-esteem, discipline. The growth shows up where it matters most – better listening at home, stronger focus at school, and the pride of doing the right thing when no one is watching.

What Our Students & Families Say

Over 87 five-star reviews from Martinez, Concord, Pleasant Hill, and Lafayette families.

"Our 5-year-old has only been taking class for a few months and already we notice major improvements in his strength and coordination. He is focused and attentive in class and that has also affected his life beyond taekwondo. It's great exercise, the teachers are really good with young kids, and our child is internalizing some of the principles discussed in class. He loves it! And so do we!"

"I have seen my son go from a child that barely made it through 10 minutes of class and was very disruptive to being able to pay attention and follow along with the moves. The staff have been able to adapt to work with my child's special needs and help him become successful."

"My wife and I have recently become students as well. The Luu family is keeping strong from all the healthy habits we are learning."

Common Questions About Element ATA

How old do you have to be to start martial arts?
We welcome students as young as 3 years old in our ATA Tigers program, which is specially designed for children ages 3–6. Our Juniors program serves ages 7–12, and our Teens & Adults program is open to anyone 13 and older. It is never too early – or too late – to start.
Do I or my child need any prior experience?
Absolutely not. All of our programs are designed to welcome complete beginners. Our instructors meet every student at their current level and build from there. Many of our most successful students started with zero martial arts background.
Can I try a class before committing?
Yes! We offer a free first class for new students of any age with no obligation. It is a chance to experience the environment, meet our instructors, and decide if it is the right fit – for you or your child. Visit our Free Trial page to claim your spot.
How does the belt system work?
ATA Martial Arts uses a structured belt progression that gives students clear, achievable goals. Students start as white belts and progress through colored belts, in order: white, orange, yellow, camo, green, purple, blue, brown, red, and black, by demonstrating specific techniques at belt tests held throughout the year. Each belt represents real skill and effort.
How often should students attend class?
We recommend attending 2–3 classes per week – that is the pace where students build real momentum, retain what they learn, and progress steadily toward their next belt. Our flexible schedule makes it easy to find class times that work around school, work, and other activities.
Do you offer classes for adults?
Yes. Our Teens & Adults program is open to anyone 13 and older, including complete beginners. Many of our adult students started training in their 30s, 40s, and beyond, and train right alongside our teen students. Martial arts is one of the best full-body workouts available, and our instructors make sure every student progresses at a comfortable pace.
